Kitzbühel - unquestionably one of the all-time great resorts of world skiing

  • Resort altitude: 762 metres
  • 233 km of skiing
  • 44 Blue, 31 Red, 15 Black runs
  • Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 30 mins from Salzburg airport and 2 hours 15 mins from Innsbruck airport by coach

In Kitzbühel you’ll have an attractive medieval town, perfectly prepared pistes and modern lifts with heated seats. You can’t get enough of the spectacular mountains that extend for miles.

Skiing and snowboarding in Kitzbühel

The wide uncrowded runs are best for intermediates – although there are runs to suit all abilities. As a beginner you’ll get to know the passionate local ski instructors – they’ll enjoy showing you the areas beauty on open gentle slopes.

The Hahnenkamm lift is where you’ll access the Kitzbühel Alps for a large variety of runs. You’ll find the Hahnenkamm Streif – the Ski World Cup’s most famous downhill run. It’s used in January for the Ski World Cup – attracting visitors from all over the world. You’ll need to be very experienced – at least if you try it from the top.

You’ll have the option of the less crowded Kitzbüheler horn – on the opposite side of the valley. Great for a warm up ski – before tackling the daring runs in the afternoon. Beginners will enjoy the snowpark here and there are plenty of marked trails for freeriders and snowboarders.

If you’re looking for off- piste powder skiing Pass Thurn in nearby Jochberg is the place. While you’re there we recommend a stop off at Bruggeralm– you’ll enjoy this traditional farmhouse serving Gröstl, Schnitzel, Pancakes and Ribs. Be sure to try the powder run all the way back to Jochberg.

Beginners skiing in Kitzbühel

There are several nursery slopes and the main area is conveniently located at the base of the Hahnenkamm. With the help of the ‘Red Devils’ ski school in Kitzbühel, learning is made easy and great fun. What makes this area unique is that you won't move off the free beginners area until your 2nd day.

Intermediates skiing in Kitzbühel

The choice of blue and red runs is extensive with lots of wide open slopes on the Kitzbüheler Horn and the scenic area of Pass Thurn. The Hahnenkamm has a large interlinked network of lifts which encompasses the areas of Kirchberg, Aschau, Aurach, Jochberg and Pass Thurn. A further 800km plus additional runs can be explored with the Super Ski Card.

Advanced skiing in Kitzbühel

The ultimate challenge is the ‘Streif’ with its vertical ‘Mäusefalle’ which even the ski racers fear. Off-piste skiing is also good and varied, one of the best areas is at Pass Thurn, where modern lifts carry skiers towards the Resterhöhe area for some of the finest skiing in the region.

Snowboarding in Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel’s two snowparks offer plenty of fun and challenges, as do the various special snowboarding pistes provided throughout the area. The XL Qpark has several rails, kickers and boxes. The park can be located by the Hanglalm by Pass thurn.

Our favourite run

'The Hahnenkamm run in Kitzbühel - it remains one of the iconic challenges. Stopping and looking down from the top of the Mouse Trap is one of those moments that gives you some measure of the incredible courage of the top downhill racers' (Anni Mothes, Product Manager Austria).

Walking

There are several walking options around the Kitzbuhel area - both on and off the mountain (70km+)
