Arctic skiing and activity holidays in Levi

Levis ski area is regarded as the best and most extensive in Finland and offers snow-sure, uncrowded skiing in an area of exceptional natural beauty. As the season starts in December and the polar nights approach, skiing takes place on the floodlit slopes. The whole ski area opens in mid February (approx. 17th) when the daylight hours start to increase and incredible skiing can be enjoyed throughout the day.

There are a range of winter activities you can book for your skiing trip to Levi, including husky sledding, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and many more. Cross-country in Levi

Simply the best for all ability levels with refreshment huts and unlimited trails. Levi has 230kms of prepared trails. 28kms of these are floodlit. There are even dedicated loops where you can ski with your dog, plus 18kms of marked winter walking trails. The 18km circle around Levi fell is easy even for novices, with possible breaks at two different reindeer farms, and can be extended a further 15km along the Ounas river to Köngäs, returning via Luvattumaa with its café and Ice Gallery. More challenging routes circle Kätkä and Pyhä fells with overnight stays possible in wilderness huts like Aakenuspirtti in the midst of a silent snowy wilderness. Several lean-to shelters, kota resting spots and cafés punctuate the routes.

The whole area is a cross-country skier’s idyll and particularly well-suited to those trying the sport for the first time. Tracks are meticulously prepared and well signposted and there is always somewhere to take a break and enjoy a hot drink and snack around an open fire. You can make your routes as challenging or as easy as you choose, without any high level of fitness necessary. Cross-country skiing is an excellent low impact sport, especially if your alpine skiing legs have had their day, and is a wonderful stress-free and healthy way to get out into unspoiled nature.

All drivers must be 18yrs+ and bring a full, valid photographic driver's licence with them to the excursion.

Children must be aged 11 yrs or above and at least 140cm tall to ride as a passenger on a snowmobile, they must be able to touch the foot rest when sat on the snowmobile. Children under this height or aged 4-10yrs will be towed in a sled or pod behind the guide. It is not possible for infants (aged 0-3 years) to take part in this excursion.

Ski Taster (bookable locally)

An opportunity for guests who have never skied before to try the wonderful world of skiing. Conditions are ideal for learning to ski with quiet slopes and friendly English-speaking instructors. The ski taster starts from beginner slopes at South Point, about 10-20 minutes by Ski Bus from Levi centre. Busses run every 15 minutes.

Ski tuition for 1½ hours (from South Point)
Skis, boots and helmet hire for the day
Access to Leevilandia area for the day
Use of the local Ski Bus for the day

Please note that the ski taster is bookable locally, subject to availability and takes place towards the end of the week (day and time to be confirmed locally).

Tuition information

The meeting point for Ski/Snowboard tuition is at South Point, about 10-20 mins by ski bus from the centre of Levi. Lessons begin from the excellent beginners area on the south slopes. Ski passes (including ski bus ticket) must be collected from Zero Point in the centre of Levi prior to your lessons. Equipment must be collected/returned to Zero Point. The ski bus runs every 15 minutes from outside Zero Point and multiple stops around Levi.

Group tuition needs a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked tuition and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private tuition to the value of what you had originally booked.

All Saver Packs must be pre-booked in UK and are not bookable locally.

Learn To Ski & Board is for complete beginners only (guests who have never skied). Any guests booking this package who have skied before will be charged an upgrade cost locally.

Free lift passes for children under 6 years, when accompanied by an adult and wearing a helmet. Issued locally, photo ID is required.

A compulsory SkiData lift pass keycard costs approximately €7.50, is included in the price of your lift pass.

Ski Bus

With a valid lift pass you can pay an optional €3 per day to use the resort bus to the ski lifts and around the village. Non-skiers (without a lift pass) can use the ski bus for €4 per day if booked in advance or €4 per trip if purchased on the bus. Children under 6 years travel free with an adult. These optional prices are approximate.

The meeting point for Ski/Snowboard tuition is at South Point, about 10-20 mins by ski bus (payable locally) from the centre of Levi. Lessons begin from the excellent beginners area on the south slopes. Ski passes must be collected from Zero Point in the centre of Levi prior to your lessons. Equipment must be collected/returned to Zero Point. The ski bus runs every 15 minutes from outside Zero Point and multiple stops around Levi.
