City Breaks in Italy

Discover Italy’s incredible art scene, ancient history and mouth-watering food & drink on an Italian city break

Discover the Italian Cities

Italy has some of the world's most iconic and beautiful cities- tick off the big three with a multi-centre to Venice, Florence and Rome. Head off to Verona to see the world famous opera or spend a weekend in Milan, the fashion capital of Europe.

Things to do on an Italian city break

Head to Florence and get up close to the Renaissance masterpieces. Florence is home to over 40% of the world's artistic masterpieces, so paintings, frescoes and sculptures by some of the greatest artists of all time; Raphael, Titian and Michelangelo to name a few, will be there to greet you around every turn.

If fashion and the cosmopolitan lifestyle's more your speed then Milan's the place for you. Italy’s most stylish city has some of the best shopping in the world – head to the quadrilatero della moda (fashion quad) for the city's top boutiques. It’s also considered the home of aperitivo; and the Milanese do it well!

Exploring Rome is endlessly intriguing. Italy's capital city certainly packs a punch, especially for the history buffs out there. It’s an open-air museum with hundreds of historic sights – from the Roman Forum and the Colosseum to the Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel. Or, enjoy the slower paced life of Venice, gliding up and down the canals on a vaporetto, or drifting across the Venetian lagoon to towns such as Burano and Murano on a water taxi; it’s one of the best ways to explore the floating city.

We mustn't forget good old Verona, imagined city of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, one of the more romantic of our Italian city collections. Make sure you visit the Arena di Verona, for the Veneto's answer to the Colosseum. Better yet, book a ticket to the world-famous night-time opera which takes place every year, for a truly enchanting night out.

Activities on an Italian city break

Some of the most beautiful places in Italy can be found in the cities. With sprawling piazzas, bustling markets, ancient churches, renaissance palaces and botanical gardens to explore, you'll find plenty to keep you entertained.

Ponte Pietra in Verona

Think of Italian cities and most people’s first thought is of Venice. But visitors to its smaller neighbour, Verona never fail to be entranced by its beauty and relaxed atmosphere. Verona is best known of course for its historic Roman arena which every summer hosts the world famous opera programme.
