Santa Breaks in Muonio

Muonio Lapland Holidays

A winter wonderland set in the remote Finnish fells, by beautiful Muonionjoki River separating Finland and Sweden. Located 200 kilometers above the Arctic Circle, you can fully embrace the peace and quiet of the real Finnish Lapland. The landscape is dominated by snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, and glistening hills, creating an authentic winter wonderland during the colder months. The remote location means that the skies are especially clear, giving you the chance to witness the magical Northern Lights. And it's the perfect place to meet Santa.

Excursions

Your Santa Break holiday to Muonio includes the following activities and excursions:

Search for Santa

Let the festivities begin! A Christmas break in Muonio is not complete without a special visit to meet Santa. Santa's Elves are the only ones who know the way to Santa's secret hideout. You'll be guided through the snowy forests on a snowmobile drawn sleigh in search of Santa's cabin - he'll be waiting to meet you there! Take part in a baking and crafts workshop, make tasty gingerbread cookies and make your own Christmas decoration as a souvenir to remember your trip. Each child will go home with a special gift from Santa.

Reindeer adventure

Meet the reindeer at one of Lapland's oldest reindeer farms! Enjoy a 1 kilometre sleigh ride (each sleigh usually holds one adult and two children) through the snow-covered forest led by a local Sami guide. Visit the small Sami museum and learn about the history of the farm and reindeer husbandry through original artifacts and stories from your guide.

Husky safari

Meet the excitable huskies on a 6 kilometre dog sledding tour through the silent forest. It's one of the greatest ways to experience the Lappish wilderness! Grown-ups (18+) will drive their own team of huskies, with one or two people (aged 12+) in the sled. Children will have the chance to enjoy the experience from the sleigh driven by a professional guide.

Snowmobiling

Zoom through the Arctic tundra on a 20 kilometre snowmobile safari. Adults (aged 18+) can drive, with the option to switch halfway - so don't forget to bring your full photographic driving license! Anyone (aged 15+) can ride with a member of their group as a passenger and guests under 15 years can enjoy the experience from the comfort of a sleigh, towed behind a guide.
