Where to ski in Norway
Skiing in Norway is a dream come true for winter sports enthusiasts, offering some of the most stunning landscapes and diverse terrains in the world. From well-groomed slopes and family-friendly resorts to challenging backcountry trails, Norway has something for everyone. It is renowned for its pristine snow conditions throughout the winter season, however there is lots to do off of the slopes too. The area is located directly under the Aurora Borealis belt, if you're lucky enough you may be able to spot the magical Northern Lights.
Snow in Norway
The snow season in Norway typically begins in late October and extends through late April - so you can expect great snow for the whole season. Myrkdalen is known to be one of Europe's most snow-sure resorts, and despite its lower elevation, neighbouring resort Voss is not far behind. Geilo also has a great snow record, with some fantastic powder throughout the season, perfect for off-piste skiing.
Best for beginners
Voss is a great place for complete beginners, with a fantastic range of slopes to choose from. You'll have to make your way up the Voss Gondola to enjoy the wide and gentle green runs, but once you're feeling more confident, there a some cruisy blues that are ideal for perfecting your skills. There are also three zones dedicated to children - These include Grebbesbakken, Badnakrokje and Trollbakken. Skiing in Grebbesbakken and Trollbakken is free!
Best for food and drink
Geilo is a hit for foodies with the option to dine on the mountain across 7 different venues. There are also additional cafes and restaurants in the village centre . Many of these restaurants focus on traditional Norwegian cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients. Expect a range of sweet and savoury foods, from Norwegian waffles and hot cocoa to soups, schnitzel and perfectly cooked venison steaks.
