Set in the centre of the Three Valleys, Europe's largest linked ski area, skiing in Méribel offers endless opportunities with easy access to the resorts of Courchevel and Val Thorens in the neighbouring valleys. The beautiful wooden chalet buildings of Méribel make this one of one of France's most attractive ski resorts and one of the most popular.

Family skiing in Méribel

Meribel has been awarded the Family Plus label which makes this resort an excellent choice for families as many of the hotels, restaurants and ski areas have kept children in mind. 

Skiing and snowboarding in Méribel

With a central location in the Three Valleys Ski Area, Méribel has excellent access to the largest linked ski area. With 600km of marked pistes you wont be short of areas to explore, and if you do try make sure you book one of the accommodations with wellness facilities to rejuvenate.  There is of course some amazing skiing in the valley itself including the Women's Downhill run and up at the Mont du Vallon and the legendary 'Face' run used for the 1992 Winter Olympics. If speeding down competition worthy slopes isn't your thing there are also plenty of cruisy blue and red runs throughout the resort. The fun zones in Méribel have been upgraded with the new 'Bump'N'Jump' fun zone with three separate runs with various jumps, boxes and boardercross sections -  accessible via the Legends chairlift and Arpasson ski lift.

Food and drink in Méribel

Méribel centre is one of the area's liveliest resorts with a great selection of bars and restaurants. Whether you want classic French dishes, Savoyard specialties or international favourites, there is something for everyone at every budget. There isn't a shortage of great bars either in Méribels après ski scene so you can dance the afternoon away at the legendary La Folie Douce or enjoy live music at Jacks. 

Where to stay in Méribel

We offer a range of accommodation in Méribel including our wonderful Inghams Catered Chalets, premium apartments and traditional Savoyard hotels. We also have a piste side, inclusive hotel in the satellite village of Mottaret which is just above Méribel. Many of the hotels and apartments are located a snowball throw away from the slopes within making it extremely easy to get onto the renowned Three Valleys Ski Area. This really is an excellent all round resort that offers something for everyone.

For families wanting to make the most of the Family Plus Label, Hotel La Chaudanne is the perfect choice. This hotel features a range of family facilities including an indoor play area for children, children's menu available in the restaurant and board games and puzzles on request from reception - perfect for a cosy fun night in where the whole family can get involved.

Beginner skiing in Méribel

Families are well catered for in Méribel, as there is plenty of beginner friendly areas around the resort,  there are also a number of themed areas scattered around which makes skiing for the first time even more enjoyable. Children can enjoy the animal-themed Moon Wild piste or the mini Le P'tit Moon ski and boardercross course. The Altiport area provides ideal, quiet and wide nursery slopes, such as the Blanchot piste, to beat the first time nerves. 

Intermediate skiing in Méribel

Intermediates can enjoy practically unlimited possibilities, from the pretty tree lined Gelinotte to the motorway reds of the Mont du Vallon. There is also easy access to the extensive intermediate slopes of both the Courchevel and Val Thorens valleys.

Advanced skiing in Méribel

There is a host of challenging and steep skiing in the Three Valleys, with around 33 black runs in the domain. If you fancy a challenge have a go at the famous un-groomed 'Face' slope which was created for the 1992 women's Albertville Olympic downhill competition. Further afield you can find the Combe De Rosael in Val Thorens, a long and steep trail posing quite a challenge. 

There is also lots of challenging steep and narrow off piste opportunities to enjoy with a local guide. The Gébroulaz glacier is an excellent route for the keen off-piste skiers and boarders, skin up to the peak and enjoy the untouched tracks through the Tueda Natural Park and marvel at the incredible landscape surrounding you. 

Snowboarding in Méribel

Apart from the vast opportunities both on piste and off piste,  Méribel is also home to two snow parks, the Plattières Park (known as DC Area 43) which features rollers, jumps, a half pipe. You can also enjoy the Bump'N'Jump zone which has transformed the former Elements Park which has a variety of boxes, rails and jumps, as well as a boarder-cross suitable for budding freestylers and advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Things To Do

Restaurants, food and drink

There are plenty of restaurants, both on the mountain and in resort where you can find a variety of different restaurants. Whether you feel like gourmet French dishes, superb Savoyard specialities or quick snacks you can find something to suit each taste. 

Après, bars and nightlife

Méribel is a lively resort with a great range of bars and clubs. Visit the legendary La Folie Douce for an afternoon of après fun or head to Le Rond Point "Ronnies" where locals and tourists gather for an afternoon to remember. They also serve lunch until 3pm on a sunny piste side terrace. 

Those looking to have a more relaxed après experience will enjoy The Brewer's Den where there is a large selection of craft beer. 

A quintessential part of Méribel's nightlife is Sullys Bar and Nightclub which is open until early hours of the morning welcoming locals, seasonnaires and tourists alike.

Shopping

There is a number of independent sport shops, souvenir shops and grocery stores throughout the resort for those on a self catering basis. Equipment rental and sports shops are typically open until late in the day so you can maximise your time on the mountain before returning your equipment at the end of your last day.

Spas and relaxation

Many of the hotels in Meribel have spas which you can make the most of. Make sure to book direct with the spa facility once you arrive in resort, as most of them are booking only.  Relax in the stylish and luxurious Spa des Neiges by Clarines which has a pool, sauna and steam room or treat yourself to a luxurious treatment. 

Treat yourself for a truly relaxing afternoon at the Le Kaila Hotel, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a morning on the mountain. Facilities include the aquamarine pool, a jacuzzi, and massage chairs.

Things to do in Méribel

Sledging

There are four dedicated toboggan runs in Méribel. Children who want to learn to sledge can do so on the Kenottes run, which is reserved just for families.  Whilst the Mission Black Forest is best for those with a bit more confidence, whiz down the 3.4 km sledge run, descending 470m with 28 corners.

Night-time gondola

Experience the magic of the mountains by night on the Chalets gondola lift, which is now open from 7:30am until 11:30pm. The lift runs between Méribel-Mottaret and Hameau du Mottaret, allowing you to enjoy an evening in one of the cosy restaurants or extend your après time on the snow front. 

Sport Centre 

The Olympic Park is a sport complex which includes a swimming pool, an ice rink, an indoor climbing wall, as well as a spa and a fitness area. Perfect for when it is just a bit to snowy to go on the mountain. Ice hockey matches in the Olympic Park take place every Tuesday night.

Paragliding

Known as “parapenting” in France, you can take to the skies and glide over the Méribel mountains where there are spectacular panoramic views of the Three Valleys

Snowmobiling

Explore Méribel by snowmobile and explore the snowy landscape. Snowmobiles are easy to drive on your own or sharing with a passenger. Be sure to book early as it is incredibly popular.

Winter walking 

Méribel is a winter walker's paradise with 25km of walking trails around the resort, explore the mountain by foot or take the ski lifts to experience higher ground. You can even meet your friends and family for some apres skiing if you'd like as many of the lifts take you up to the most popular spots. 

Bowling

Can you get a strike? Head to the local bowling alley to play a game or two. There is also pool tables, video games, table-football and ive screening of big sporting events to keep you occupied.

Lift pass information

Free lift passes for children aged 0-4 are issued locally, photo ID required.

Local Lift Pass covers Meribel and Meribel-Mottaret.

Three Valleys Area Pass covers Meribel, Meribel-Mottaret, Courchevel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Orelle.

If you have a local pass then you can buy an extension to ski the Three Valleys locally. It is €48 per day so better to buy the full area pass if you are planning to ski outside of Meribel for 2 days.

Ski and snowboard timings: Mon - Fri 9:00am - 12pm.

Children's ski tuition: Friday is a full day from 9:15am - 4:15pm with lunch included.

Travel Information

All our holidays include return travel to resort either by flight or train and then the transfer between the airport or railway station and Meribel.

All departures are on Saturdays with stays for 7 or 14 nights.

The transfer in Meribel will stop as close as possible to your chosen accommodation. In some cases there may be a couple of minutes' walk due to regulations on where coaches can stop.

Private transfers and self-drive options are available, call to book these.

We have a 7 night train option to Meribel that can be booked on line.

This is a train that departs and returns Saturdays which a much shorter transfer of 30 minutes from Moutiers railway station. Add an extra 15 minutes if staying at Hotel Le Mottaret
