Discover Mürren

Often referred to as the cradle of Alpine skiing, Mürren is one of Europe’s most historic winter destinations. Perched high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley on a dramatic terrace opposite Wengen, this idyllic, traffic-free village offers a peaceful alternative to the busier resorts. Mürren is only accessible by cable car, making it a true mountain retreat.

James Bond fans might recognise the ski area as it featured in the film 'On Her Majestys Secret Service. The revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria, located at the top of the Schilthorn - Europes steepest cable car, famously featured as the mountaintop hideout of the villain Blofeld.

The resort has its own ‘Mürren-Schilthorn’ ski area with around 54 kilometres of slopes, it's the highest ski area in the Bernese Oberland. While Mürren is ideal for more experienced skiers and snowboarders due to its challenging runs, slopes are available for all skill levels. Beginners can take the funicular up to Allmendhubel, where you'll find a variety of nursery slopes.

For more experienced skiers, the Schiltgrat offers a great selection of runs for all levels. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will love the thrill of Slope 9 Direttissima, the steepest slope in the Jungfrau! You have access the wonderful Jungfrau Ski Region, surrounded by the dramatic backdrop of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch - a visit to the Jungfrau is not complete without a visit to the Top of Europe - tour the Ice Palace, learn about the history of the railway or take in the panoramic views of the Swiss Alps.

Non-skiers can take advantage of the excellent winter walking and sledging with the non-skiers’ lift pass. If you are looking for somewhere to meet for lunch at the Panoramic Restaurant Allmendhubel is a great choice - the non skiers can get the funicular up, while the skiers and boarders can ski up to the restaurant.

Schilthorn Gondola

The brand new Schilthorn cable car is one of the most spectacular cable car journeys in the Swiss Alps. It connects the village of Stechelberg, deep in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with the summit of the Schilthorn (2,970 metres), passing through the mountain villages of Gimmelwald, Mürren, and Birg along the way. The cableway has an impressive gradient of 159.4 percent - climbing 775 metres in just four minutes.

This cable car route includes some of the steepest ascents in Switzerland, particularly on the final section between Birg and Schilthorn, where passengers are lifted swiftly up sheer rock faces to reach the summit station. The journey is divided into four dramatic sections and offers panoramic views of snow covered peaks, deep valleys, and cliffside villages.

Once at the top, the summit of Schilthorn, offers panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. You may also recognise the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant, made famous by the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
