Ski Holidays in Gressoney

Warm, traditional Italian hospitality and great skiing, on & off-piste

  • Resort altitude of 1,640 metres
  • 180 kilometres of skiable terrain
  • Skiing to 3,550 metres

Nestled in the centre of the Monterosa ski area, one of the largest and unspoilt ski areas in Italy, you will find the beautiful resort of Gressoney. If you are looking for a traditional village with cobbled streets, full of history dating back to World War 2 and a ski area known for good challenging pistes, massive off-piste potential and 28 peaks over 4000 metres, this is where you want to be.

Skiing and snowboarding in Gressoney

Dubbed by many as Europe’s best kept secret, the Monterosa ski area is simply stunning. The pistes are immaculate, probably something to do with the fact they are not overcrowded and majority of the people who do head here are at a good level of skiing. Around Gressoney you can enjoy some woodland skiing before heading further afield either towards Colle Bettaforca and over the peak towards Champoluc, the largest of the 7 towns in the area. More experienced skiers and boarders will love the slopes over towards Alagna, specifically those looking for powder can head up the Punta Indren lift which takes enthusiasts to an area dedicated to off-piste. We recommend a guide and ensuring you have the right equipment for the job. There’s also excellent cross-country skiing in both villages, with more than 20 miles of tracks for you to explore.

Things To Do

Things to do in Gressoney

Restaurants, food and drink

You'll find a wide variety of restaurants across resort that are perfect for pitstop lunches and sophisticated evening meals. Whether you want to try some of the local cuisine or you want something a little more homely, there is something to suit all tastes.

Il Principe is a great place to try some of the local cuisine and has a fantastic wine cellar. You'll find regional specialities on the menu including fondue, Cervo and 'sugo di lepre' (pasta with a hare sauce). When in Italy, you have to try some classic Italian pizzas. The Pizzeria Principe has the reputation for making some of the best pizza in the Valley and even has a listing in the Italian Good Food Guide.

Après, bars, clubs and nightlife

The Gressoney après scene can be seen as quiet compared to it's Italian sister resorts, but there are still opportunities to have a drink after a long ski day. The vibe here is more relaxed and is a great choice if you'd prefer socialising over a beer or two instead of dancing the whole night away. The bars across resort take it in turns to close one night a week, meaning the selection is never the same and you'll have opportunities to visit multiple venues during your stay.

Spas and relaxation

Gressoney not only offers breathtaking views of the Monte Rosa Massif, fresh air and winter hiking trails, but also a number of spa facilities featuring swimming pools, saunas and hot tubs. You'll also be able to book in for a massage or beauty treatment if you'd really like to treat yourself.

The LYS Spa located in Chalet Du Lys offers a whirlpool bath, sauna, steam room, ice bath and relaxation area. You'll also be able to order hot and cold drinks during your trip. You'll find multiple fantastic facilities here to help you unwind after an energetic day on the slopes.

La Gruba Relais wellness area includes a sauna fed by a wood-burning fireplace, stone slab Turkish bath and relaxation area that aims to take you on a journey of restoration.

Gressoney Resort Activities

Ice skating

There are two areas where you can ice skate in Gressoney. The first ice-rink located at Lake Gover near the historic centre of Gressoney-Saint-Jean is a beautiful pond transformed into a winter ice skating rink. It is next to a charming larch forest and offers some fantastic views of Monte Rosa as well as being equipped with a lighting system also allowing you to skate in the evening - simply magical. The second rink is located at the sports area near the Punta Jolanda ski life and is also equipped with lighting.

Tobogganing

Because Gressoney is nestled in a valley, it provides access to some great toboggan runs that trail up and down the hills. All of these runs are natural and toboggans can be purchased in resort. It is a fantastic activity for families and is suitable for all ages.
