Ski holidays in Soldeu

The ideal combination of big skiing, lively aprés-ski and tremendous value

  • Lift pass offer: Free lift pass for children under 12 years when parents pre-book lift passes - Please see our lift pass offers page for more details
  • Resort altitude of 1,710 metres
  • 210 kilometres across the Grandvalira ski region
  • Transfer time from airport is 3¾ hrs by coach

The huge ski area of the Grandvalira, which links the resorts of Soldeu and Pas de la Casa, has over 200 kilometres of slopes as well as an impressive, modern lift system with state-of-the-art gondolas and fast chairs, leaving no area unexplored. After a day on the slopes, try some tapas and discover the Catalan influences in the food, drink and lively après-ski. Or head over to the neighbouring ski village of El Tarter which provides a peaceful gateway to a fantastic network of slopes.

Skiing and snowboarding in Soldeu

Located in the heart of the Grandvalira ski area, Soldeu is best situated for beginners and intermediates. The ski season runs from early December through to mid-April, and don't worry when planning your holiday for the later months as most of the slopes are over 2000 metres with a good proportion of these being covered by artificial snow canons - this resort is snow sure throughout the whole season.

Where to stay in Soldeu

Most of our properties in Soldeu are hotels but there are apartments available too if you'd like a more homely feel for your winter trip. If you're aiming to hit the slopes as early as possible then Hotel Himalaia is the right choice as the property is ski in/ski out. On the other hand, if wellness and relaxation after an energetic day is more your style then we'd recommend Hotel Piolets Park.

Bars and restaurants in Soldeu

Andorra loves an Irish pub and there are many to choose from across Soldeu, so you can grab a drink and some hearty food after a day on the slopes. If you'd prefer an evening meal out, there are also a range of restaurants down the main street, serving a variety of foods from traditional tapas, Italian and Asian cuisine.

Soldeu is definitely quieter than its sister resort of Pas de la Casa, but that doesn't mean the drinks don't flow. The vibe here is more lounging and socialising, but there are still opportunities to have a cocktail or two before calling it a day.

Ski deals in Soldeu

The Andorra pass is a fantastic opportunity to refresh and switch up your riding terrain during your holiday. The pass covers the whole of Andorra including the Grandvalira ski area of Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, El Tartar & Canillo as well as Ordino-Arcalis and Pal-Arinsal.

Advanced skiing in Soldeu

Good off-piste potential and 10 black runs complement the cruising red runs that allow you to cover the impressive terrain easily, and really get miles under your belt. If you'd like to expand your options then we'd recommend exploring the area as a whole and heading over to Pas or Arinsal for some more runs.

Vastly improved in recent times with half-pipes, jumps, snow parks with sound systems and some excellent off-piste. Soldeu is home to 3 snow parks located in El tarter, Grau Roig and Peretol, all with great opportunities to improve (or show off) freestyle and board skills.

Things To Do

Things to do in Soldeu

Duty free shopping trips to Andorra la Vella

The capital, Andorra la Vella, will provide you with more than 400 shops offering tax-free goods. Although there is a dominance of sports shops, specialising in cycling, skiing and mountain equipment, there is also a wide range of fashion and jewellery shops, restaurants and bars and there's even a chocolate factory. If you fancy something luxurious or just a simple souvenir, the Andorra la Vella shopping scene has it all.

Spa and wellness trips

Whether you're looking for a relaxing family day out, or wanting some adults only time by the pool, Soldeu has spa and wellness facilities to fit all. The Caldea Spa located in Andorra La Vella offers a range of massage therapies, beauty treatments and is Europe's largest mountain spa. However, if you'd prefer to stay in resort, the Sports Hotel Wellness Spa has hydrotherapy baths overlooking the slopes and is available to non-residents at an extra charge.

Snowmobiling

Jump on a snowmobile and experience Soldeu to the fullest. Make the most of the guided tours that are available or create your own adventure and follow marked trails alone. If you're hoping for a little more excitement, night tours are also available in resort through request. Snowmobile drivers are required to be 18 years and over but children are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Ice activities

There is a wide variety of winter excursions offered around Soldeu with the Canillo Olympic Palace offering a range of ice activities like ice hockey, ice karting and artistic ice skating. The venue has stands for 1,700 spectators and has an Olympic size ice rink. You can even learn how to build an igloo which is great fun for the children.

Dog sledging

Also known as 'Mushing', take a guided tour around the peaks lead by a group of Siberian huskies. Choose to take charge and control the sled, assisting the dogs on their run, or sit back and relax in the passenger seat making sure to enjoy the snowy scenery of the Grandvalira.

Paragliding

Add a touch of adrenaline to your holiday and experience a birds eye view of Soldeu through paragliding. No previous experience is needed and there are multiple types of flight on offer with an amazing selection of guides. If you'd like to capture that unforgettable moment, some flights are documented with photo and video imagery available for purchase at the end of your ride.

Zip wire

The Grandvalira zipline, 40 meters high and 550 meters long, gives you some of the best possible views of the mountains and Llac del Forn lake. You can either sit down and cruise or if you're feeling daring enough ride horizontally and prepare to fly.

Snow shoeing and cross country skiing

If you'd prefer to explore the winter landscape by foot we'd recommend trying snow shoeing or cross country skiing. Both are relatively easy and only take place on flat, smooth ground. Using poles and your own strength you wade through the snow, making it fantastic exercise as well as a lot of fun. A highlight about these activities is that they take place away from the busy pistes, allowing you to explore the quieter, untouched parts of Andorra.

Après ski

The après ski in Soldeu is not to be missed due to unbeatable tax free prices. Soldeu sticks to it's roots with traditional rustic nightclubs and bars. A favourite of ours would be Fat Alberts, located in a converted 300 year old barn this pub provides great atmosphere and is a popular choice with both tourists and locals. The venue provides regular live music and also offers a restaurant side for those of you looking for something more laidback.

Tuition information

All lessons are for 3 hours from 10am or 2pm for 3 hours a day. We try to book lessons in the mornings but on some high season dates, afternoon sessions are allocated.

Ski Kindergarten or Snow Garden is available to pre-book for children aged 3-5 years inclusive. Children aged 4-5 have lessons in a dedicated area whilst the 3 year olds will learn more about the snow with suitable games and activities. If children have skied before then they will be divided in to skiing level groups and the beginners all remain together. Children must bring along ski boots, skis and a helmet from the ski hire shop. Ski sticks are not necessary. Please ensure they have sun screen, protective glasses, suitable clothing and the lift pass. Pre-booked 5 day Kindergarten is booked from the Monday and is based at the top of the Soldeu gondola at the ski school meeting place.

Levels of tuition

  • Beginner: never skied before
  • Level 1: advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes
  • Level 2: low intermediate; snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3: high intermediate; parallel turns and confident on all slopes

Season dates

  • Low season: 01 Nov 24 - 22 Dec 24, 05 Jan - 08 Feb 25, 23 Feb - 30 Apr 25
  • High season: 23 Dec 24 - 04 Jan 25, 09 Feb - 22 Feb 25

Please ensure you pre-book tuition for high season dates to avoid the ski schools being fully booked.

Group ski lessons need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked lessons and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private lessons to the value of the lessons you had originally booked.

Prices and supplements are correct at time of publishing. Up-to-date prices are confirmed at time of booking.
