Park Hotel Mignon is one of Merano's best hotels. It's just a five-minute walk away from the centre of town and the Passer river, but still far enough away to be a relaxing retreat.

Glorious gardens

The hotel's surrounded by nature with established gardens providing peace and privacy. They stretch over 10,000 square metres and have plenty of shady spots to relax in on a warm summer’s day. There's even a small family chapel in the garden which is a hidden gem.

Foodie heaven

The Glatt-Amort-Ellmenreich family have really looked after the property and take pride in every detail. This is reflected in the food which is out of this world; with quirky gourmet dishes and one of the best buffet’s we’ve ever seen – it’s a foodie heaven.

The spa of dreams

There's so much to see and do in Merano but don't forget to leave time to relax in the hotel’s spa. Spend a few hours chilling out in the saunas, pool or steam room. If you want to top up your tan head to the roof terrace, which is the perfect sun trap. The views are pretty incredible from here too.

  • Take a leisurely stroll through awe-inspiring botanical gardens
  • Enjoy two guided walks per week with Inghams holidays to Merano, perfect for exploring the stunning surroundings

Merano has been a favoured holiday destination for centuries. Once a popular summer retreat among the European bourgeoisie in the 19th century, it has beautiful hotels and architecture to show for it. Known for its radon springs and spas, Merano is surrounded by mountains that come alive in summer with colourful wildflowers, crystal-clear streams and verdant vineyards and forests. Whether you're walking or just relaxing in one of the town’s many parks or its botanical gardens, summer holidays in Merano promise to be breathtaking.

Walking holidays in Merano

Walking holidays in Merano offer a blend of natural beauty and rich history. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the town is a paradise for hikers, with trails ranging from leisurely strolls through lush parks and vineyards to more challenging mountain hikes. Explore the famous Sissi’s Path, which leads to the breathtaking Trauttmansdorff Castle botanical gardens, or wander through the idyllic Merano 2000 plateau for panoramic views of the Alps. The region is also home to scenic routes along crystal-clear streams and vibrant meadows, making it an ideal destination for walking enthusiasts looking to connect with nature

A relaxing retreat: thermal spa therapy

Merano is famous throughout Italy for its natural hot springs, and there are several thermal spas in the area where you can relax and rejuvenate in the healing waters. Some of the most popular spots include the Terme Merano (the Merano Thermal Baths) and the AquaForum. Summer holidays have never been so regenerating!

Sightseeing in Merano: centuries of culture (and wine)

Merano has a rich cultural heritage, with several museums, galleries and historic buildings to explore. The town is particularly well known for its Art Nouveau architecture, which can be seen in buildings like the Kurhaus and Villa Tivoli. If you visit the Castel Rametz, you can explore the ancient wine cellar, said to be the first place to produce wine in the Alps, going all the way back to Roman times. The wine tastings here are fantastic, and you'll also have the chance to try some of the local cured meats with your wine, it's the best way to get a taste of Merano.

Tyrolean treats: tuck into Merano's local food

The food might be the best thing of all in Italy’s South Tyrol and a highlight of your summer holiday. Blending Austrian, Italian and Mediterranean influences, traditional Tyrolean dishes include speck (smoked ham), knödel (dumplings) and kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) alongside the classic Italian favourites. Wash it all down with a glass of wine from a local vineyard.
