Discover Adventure in Chamonix
With the Mont Blanc towering over the town, it’s no wonder Chamonix is a haven for walkers. With spruce forests, stunning glaciers and rocky peaks with diverse walking trails to suit different abilities, Chamonix makes for a fantastic walking destination. With a lively town centre and plenty of activities on offer, it’s often referred to as the adventure capital of Europe.
Our top tips for your time in Chamonix:
You can't visit Chamonix without taking a trip on the Aiguille du Midi cable car, it's recommended that tickets are purchased in advance as it's one of Chamonix's most popular attractions and you can see why. This cable car will whisk you up into the Mont Blanc Massif to the Aiguille du Midi peak viewpoint. Temperatures plummet at the top as snow covered peaks and spectacular scenery surround you - there's a viewing area at the top as well as a small museum detailing the history of mountain climbing in the area. As you head back down in the cable car, you'll see wonderful views of the Chamonix valley.
The Montenvers train is also an excellent way to get into the mountains. This cog train climbs above Chamonix until you reach the Mer de Glace glacier - one of Europe's largest glaciers.
For a relaxed pace, discover the shops of Chamonix. Enjoy lunch at one of the many cafés or restaurants then indulge on one of the fabulous ice cream parlours or patisseries, most with delicious macaroons on offer.
