Your second week of skiing, where you move from beginner ski lessons to intermediate lessons can be one your most rewarding ski weeks ever. No longer are you restricted to the blue pistes and nursery slopes – now you can explore the mountains on long, cruising red runs.
This is also an opportunity for you to build on the skills you’ve learnt so far. In the weeks following your beginner lessons you are likely to improve exponentially, as you gain confidence and yet still have the scope to learn new techniques.
Improver skiers are spoilt for choice when it comes to ski resorts. Many places offer an excellent mixture of blue and red runs – making it easy for you to graduate from beginner skiing to intermediate. These are just a selection of our favourites:
La Rosiére, France
Whether you’re dusting off your skis from your last trip or moving on from beginner lessons, with over 40 blue and red ski runs La Rosière is perfect for improvers, providing an opportunity to learn an extensive range of ski techniques.
One of the reasons we love La Rosière so much is that, while we can take it easy on the blues, there are plenty of challenges out there for intermediate skiers with tree lined runs that drop below the resort. The red runs offer varied terrain and comfortable chair lifts mean everything is easily accessible and well connected.
The ski schools in La Rosière also offer private and group lessons in a friendly and relaxed environment so learning can be done at your own pace. Beginner and intermediate ski lessons are available through Inghams.
Obertauern, Austria
Improver skiers fall in love with Obertauern, it has one of the longest seasons in the Alps: winter lasts until early May. With high-altitude queue-free skiing, traditional Austrian après-ski and ski-in/ski-out hotels. Shrouded by the spectacular peaks of the RadstädterTauern, the ski circus is suitable for all levels and great for mixed ability groups. The green circuit with 7 lifts including the main 'Zehnerkar' cable-car gives access to wonderful open slopes to help the beginner and second time skiers' confidence. With the red circuit with 9 lifts contains a vast amount of blue and red runs; the higher up you go, the harder the runs get for more confident improvers.
Ski lessons are available to prebook with Inghams.
Ylläs, Lapland
Ylläs is Finland’s largest downhill ski resort. The variety of winter activities makes Ylläs an ideal destination for beginners moving into intermediate lessons. The wealth of winter adventures will take the pressure off learning to ski every day.
When you’re on the ski slopes, your confidence will steadily increase. Ylläs has an enviable snow record, and the pistes are well groomed. The gentle, rolling fell landscape, as supposed to Alpine mountains, mean that even the harder ski runs are less severe or steep. Your ski holiday to Lapland will likely involve your first successful attempt at a black run!
The Ylläs ski school provides fantastic, supportive tuition by professionally trained and qualified ski instructors.
