Hochgurgl is the smaller but higher neighbouring resort of Obergurgl. With slopes rising up to 3,080m, their altitude was not lost on Walter Ingham, the founder of the Inghams. He brought his first party of skiers here in 1934 after placing an advert in The Times. It said: “Private Party to Ski the Tyrol  - 14 days for 12 guineas.”

Skiing and snowboarding in Hochgurgl

At the end of the 1990s Obergurgl and Hochgurgl finally got a crucial mid-mountain link between their two previously separate ski areas - the Top Express eight-person gondola.

A red run from the top of the Schermerspitze chairlift down to Obergurgl gives an impressive vertical descent of 1,500m. The two-stage chairlift up the Wurmkogl gives access to some truly challenging red runs and some fun off-piste.

Hochgurgl has recently opened the doors of its new ‘Top Mountain Crosspoint’ vintage museum and restaurant set at the bottom station of the new Kirchenkar 10-person gondola. The multifunctional building that hosts a motorbike museum and a state-of-the-art mountain restaurant with table service and panoramic views.

Skiing in Sölden is included

6 day lift passes are also valid in the superb Sölden ski area, where you can enjoy the bonus of 145km of high-altitude, glacier skiing.

Beginners Skiing in Hochgurgl

Hochgurgl has a beginners' area and many wide, open blue runs to progress on to. In Obergurgl, there are two beginners areas, one in the village centre near the Rosskar lift and one at the bottom end of the village near the Festkogel lift. Bobos Miniclub will keep your little ones occupied with plenty of fun in the snow. The blue pistes in Hochgurgl are great for experienced beginners.

Intermediates Skiing in Hochgurgl

The Wurmkogl area has an extensive choice for skiers who like long, spacious blue and red runs. Blue runs 5 and 6 are good runs for low intermediates.

Advanced Skiing in Hochgurgl

There are some challenging black runs and good moguls on the unprepared ski routes or book a guide to explore the deep powder off-piste skiing on the Wurmkogl in Hochgurgl. A day trip over to the glacier in Sölden is well worth it with your 6 day lifts pass which is valid in the superb Sölden area.

Snowboarding in Hochgurgl

Pistes are generally suitable for snowboarding with a selection of jumps on the Festkogl area.

Our favourite run

'Pistes from top of the Wurmkogel lift in Hochgurgl. Relaxing cruisy blue runs, with the treat at the top – the two Wurmkogel lifts take you the Top Mountain Star, a mountain restaurant and look-out point with one of the most glorious views, looking south across the Italian border to the rose-coloured crags of the Dolomites. Simply sensational on a clear day. From there, you can ski down all the way to Untergurgl, so it's a lovely long, scenic run.' (Neil Lodge, Product Manager Austria).
