Proudly sat at the gateway between France and Italy, Montgenèvre boasts French charm with an Italian flair. Don't let the 300 days of sunshine fool you, its high altitude skiing above the cross-border pass has one of the best snow records in France and the Monts de la Lune lift pass also covers the resorts of Claviere and Cesana in Italy and two days skiing the Milky Way. Getting over to Italy couldn't be easier with the new Rocher De Aigle gondola,  the new gondola seats ten and is three times shorter than the previous chairlift. Ninety-five percent of the former chairlift has been recycled; the cables, stations, and electrical equipment were repurposed in Montgenèvre, while the pylons and seats were sent to other ski resorts in France.

Spot the abandoned fortresses from the peaks of Les Gondrans and peer over to Italy from the summit of the Col Saurel. With wide and uncrowded pistes, this area is an excellent choice for beginners and advanced skiers alike, plus the new Durancia spa, Monty Express toboggan and great value mountain restaurant Les Terrasses all add to why we feel now is the time to holiday in Montgenèvre.

Skiing and snowboarding in Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre is undoubtedly one of the best mixed ability resorts across Europe and is a firm favourite in the Alps for people learning to ski/snowboard. Beginners are well taken care of and the designated beginners areas consists of nursery slopes and magic carpets which are the perfect places to start. For those of you looking to re-find your snow feet, there are a variety of wide easy green and blue slopes to master, perfect for boosting your confidence. Some of the beginner slopes are also located at the top of the resort, so you'll still be able to experience that Alpine setting advanced skiers and boarders have the pleasure of cruising all the time.

For more experienced riders, Montgenèvre offers a range of fun and challenging red and black slopes as well as some dedicated areas for off-piste. There are a number of guides and instructors who are happy to show you the best off-piste runs from Les Bois des Brousset or Le Tremplin to the fantastic bends of Les Mamelons. With recent improvements, Montgenèvre has made the resort even more appealing to advanced skiers and snowboarders with natural freeriding terrains as well as an international standard half pipe designed with the help of experts from the French national snowboarding association, and two fun runs.

Bars and restaurants in Montgenèvre

It's no surprise that the majority of bars and restaurants across resort have Italian and French influence. There are more than a dozen restaurants in Montgenèvre, catering for all budgets. Le Capitaine is a great choice if you're fancying some Italian cuisine without travelling far and has a great pizza selection. La Ca del Sol serves up traditional French mountain meals such as fondue. La Table Blanche is the go to if you're fancying a gourmet dinner. There are plenty of options to choose from and of course there is the potential for many more if you ski over into Italy, where you can pit stop for a delicious lunch.

Montgenèvre is on the quieter side, and you'll find a lot of the bars here offer a relaxed 'sit down and socialise' atmosphere. Le Jammy and Refuge are some firm favourites and attract the crowd straight from the slopes. However, if you are looking for a party after a long day of cruising the mountains, the resort does have a nightclub called Blue Night Disco which gets lively at the weekends.
