Located 25km south of Lake Lucerne in a wide mountain valley, Engelberg is the biggest and, according to the locals, the most stunning ski resort in central Switzerland. 

Skiing and snowboarding in Engelberg

When it comes to the main skiing area of Engelberg, you'll find that the majority of the pistes are spread out due to the glaciers and the rugged landscape of resort. Engelberg's ski area offers around 82 kilometres of skiable terrain and is divided into two main sectors: Titlis-Stand and Jochpass. Here, the elevated north-facing slopes hold onto their snow really well, ensuring a lengthy ski season. Plus, the piste grooming is top-notch, providing excellent skiing and snowboarding conditions. You'll find that the area caters well for intermediates to advanced as many of the runs are challenging steep reds. The Jochpass region tends to be less crowded compared to Titlis, offering pleasant blue and red runs for you to enjoy, some of which are wonderfully long, taking you all the way down to the valley station. However, if you are a beginner, you're in luck - there's a dedicated beginner's area at Gerschnialp, along with smaller areas at Trübsee and Untertrübsee, where you can start off by building your confidence. Boarders are also in for a treat as Engerlberg offers some fantastic freeriding opportunity and many guides available to accompany you and show you the best spots.

Engelberg has a lovely selection of bars and restaurants, both in the resort and on the slopes. You can find a variety of restaurants serving classic alpine dishes like fondue or raclette, regional specialties, burgers, pizza, and pasta. No matter which mountain restaurant or bar you visit, they all share one incredible feature: a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains that will undoubtedly captivate you. Whether you're taking a break from skiing or enjoying a mountain adventure, stopping for a warming drink with lebkuchen or a long lunch is well worth it.
