The Hotel Falken was built in 1895, and has been loving run and maintained by the Von Allmen - Cova family since, and staying here you'll discover why it's a significant member of the Swiss Historic Hotels group. The hotel is ideal for culture lovers looking for a traditional Swiss stay, it retains its charm throughout and you can admire the historic aspects the moment you step through the door.

Excellent location

The Falken is set back from the main centre of Wengen, and enjoys a quiet location overlooking the Lobhorn. The nursery slopes, train station and Männlichen cable car are just a short walk away from the hotel, and when the conditions are right it's possible to ski in/ out from the hotel via a connecting ski path to the beginners area. Wengen is an excellent choice if you don't want to ski the same areas each day - head over to Grindelwald for intermediate runs, Kleine Schiedegg for cruisy blues or Mürren for more advanced runs including the iconic Schilthorn.

Unique and traditional

Once you have stepped through the door you can see tradition in each room. Each of the bedrooms have a unique style, they are bright and cosy with most having views across the village and surrounding mountains.  There are two comfortable and social lounges - The cosy and intimate bar overlooks Wengen and the Lobhorn, it is a great spot to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine after a day of exploring the Jungfrau. The historical Piano Room is popular with guests and locals alike, enjoy listening to a pianist who performs most evenings with a nightcap. You'll have made friends with the hotel staff who offer friendly attentive service in the large dining room and bar in no time.

Family friendly

Families are welcomed and made to feel at home at the Falken. The option to choose interconnecting rooms make for a comfortable stay, with plenty of space for the whole family. It's perfectly located, close to the beginner slopes too. We love that Wengen is traffic free, making it easy to explore the village on foot.

Wengen

  • Ski from an altitude of 2,970 metres in the Jungfrau Ski Region
  • 211 kilometres of pistes across the whole ski area
  • 27 blue, 36 red and 19 black runs

The idyllic village of Wengen is high up on a sunny, sheltered terrace with spectacular views, dominated by the magnificent trio of peaks – the Eiger (Ogre), Mönch (Monk) and Jungfrau (Maiden) – which provide a spectacular backdrop to Mürren and Wengen, and in part to Grindelwald. You'll arrive in this charming, friendly village by scenic mountain railway as it has reduced traffic, although you'll spot a few electric vehicles around.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Wengen

Home of the famous Lauberhorn downhill race this area is a skiers paradise. With the Jungfrau whole area pass you'll have access to skiing and boarding in Wengen, Grindelwald and Mürren ski areas, on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.  Take the cable-car from Wengen village centre, which links to Grindelwald’s ski area or take the mountain railway to the Kleine Scheidegg where both ski areas meet. Whatever your ski ability, you'll have the chance to enjoy the expanse of slopes and beautiful scenery. If skiing and boarding's not for you or just fancy a few day's doing other winter activities, take advantage of the amazing winter walking and sledging network. Pre book a non-skiers pass and use the lift and rail network to link the sledge runs and hiking trails.

Development on the brand new Schilthorn cable car will be taking place over the winter 2024/25 season, limiting access to the top of the Piz Gloria/ Schilthorn mountain. The cable car will terminate at Birg, however there is still plenty of skiing in the local Murren area.

Bars and restaurants in Wengen

There are plenty of mountain restaurants across the Jungfrau area to check out for food at lunchtime. If you are around Grindelwald, why not head the Eigergletscher, and watch how the Rugen Disterllery gin is produced before enjoying a well deserved drink on the sun terrace.  In the small village you'll find that some of the best restaurants are in the hotels, which are largely open to the public offering a la carte menus. With the majority of our accommodation available on a half board basis, so you'll have breakfast and dinner covered. When it comes to après in Wengen, think cosy bars and elegant lounges.  Where to Stay in Wengen
