Boutique hotel

The Hotel Alex is a unique hotel set in the centre of Zermatt. Furnished to a high standard, this hotel ticks all the boxes for a memorable stay in Switzerland. With a convenient location in Zermatt, you are close to the ski lifts, bars and restaurants - you can easily get on the mountain each day, or visit the attractions around resort and enjoy a drink or two at the end of the day. Throughout the hotel you can find alpine wood combined with stone to create a luxurious feel, and the public areas including the bar, restaurant and wellness area are all ideal spots to relax after a day of exploring Zermatt.

Wellness and relaxation

After a day of exploring the slopes of Zermatt, take a moment to unwind in the wellness area. Have a dip in the pool, soothe your aches and pains in the sauna or steam-room, and have a rest in the solarium. For the ultimate treat, book a massage or treatment with the spa team. If you want to keep your fitness levels up, there is also a fitness room with a range of equipment and a sports court - have a game of badminton or tennis at the extensive indoor courts.

Lounge and restaurant

Each day you can enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast to fuel up for a day on the slopes. In the evening a three to five course set meal is served, using fresh and seasonal ingredients to create tasty dishes. The hotel is also home to the Alex Grill, serving meat and fish specialities from the Valais region - the chefs use local and seasonal ingredients to conjure up new creations and innovative takes on the classics. Groups can enjoy the Bodega Bacchus, one of Zermatts most luxurious wine cellars serving Valais specialities and gourmet meals with global wine pairings.

There are some lovely areas in the hotel to socialise with friends and families including the Alex Bar,  enjoy a specially crafted cocktail or sit back and relax in the themed alcoves including the ‘Highlander’ or the ‘Scottish Corner’.

Zermatt

Even without its iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt would surely be one of the world’s top ski resorts. It has an excellent ski area at high-altitude, and the breath taking views of Europe’s most famous peak add an unbeatable and unique crowning glory. The village is car-free apart from electric cars and horse-drawn carriages. A regular free e-bus route runs between the railway station and the cable cars, making it easy to get on and off of the slopes each day. Just off the bustling Bahnhofstrasse you'll find quaint little streets, elegant boutiques, cosy bars and mouth-watering chocolate shops.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Zermatt

With direct access to the slopes in either direction from the village centre - you'll be on the mountain in no time! Travel via cable car, funicular or the famous Gornergrat mountain railway, which takes you on a spectacular ride up to 3089 metres, where you'll have the best views of the Gorner glacier. To reach the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, take the final stage of the 3S Gondola to Europe's highest mountain station at Klein Matterhorn 3883 metres. From the top, you can choose to ski over to Zermatt’s Italian neighbour, Cervinia, for the day on the International lift pass. If you're up for a challenge take on the Matterhorn Ski Safari - attempt to cover 10,000 – 12,000 metres of altitude without skiing the same slope or taking the same lift twice.

The new Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, opening in 2023, completes the continuous cable car link between Switzerland and Italy making it possible for non-skiers to travel between the two countries, as well as skiers in the winter.
