With a ski-back location, the Hotel Stella allows guests to make the most of their time in the Dolomites. A warm welcome from staff and great wellness facilities make the hotel a hidden gem in Selva.

Ski back location

With a prime location, the Hotel Stella provides easy access to the Dolomites' renowned ski slopes. Make your way up the Costabella chairlift each day for access to the lovely slopes at the top of the Dantercepies where you have incredible views of the Sassolungo, or head over to the Alta Badia region where you can follow the Sella Ronda ski circuit.

At the end of the day you can virtually ski back to the hotel from the sunny slopes of Plan d'Gralba. The Ciampinoi gondola is just a five minute walk away, where you'll have access to the sunny slopes of the Val Gardena, and the green Sella Ronda route.

The centre of Selva is just 200 metres away, where you can find a selection of sport shops, bakeries, bars and the supermarket.

Each morning you can fuel up for a day of adventures at the varied breakfast buffet, where there is a classic continental offering of fruits, meats and cheeses, breads and pastries, daily options are also available to order. When you return you can enjoy hearty meals such as their popular homemade pasta and breadsticks in the modern alpine style dining room.

Spa facilities

Unwind in the hotel's wellness area after a day exploring on the slopes. The spa has a sauna, steam bath and jacuzzi pool to relax in. The pool with hydro massage beds is perfect for soothing achy ski legs, you can then relax in the sauna or steam bath before relaxing on a lounger.

If you have a Dolomiti Superski lift pass you have access to twelve different ski areas and over 1200 kilometres of slopes. Each day is a new adventure, explore the local area of the Val Gardena, venture towards the surrounding areas of Alta Badia, Val di Fassa and Arabba on the Sella Ronda ski circuit or venture to the highest point in the Dolomites, the Marmolada Glacier. Whether you are just starting out or have been skiing for years, there truly a piste for everyone in Selva.

Where to stay in Selva

We offer a range of accommodation in Selva, all with great access to the extensive Dolomiti Ski Area, you're spoilt for choice. 

The Chalet Soldanella offers an authentic chalet experience in a great location. The resort centre and slopes are just a short walk from the chalet, and you can enjoy six days of catering and tasty afternoon treats when you return from a day on the slopes. 

Hotel Mignon is a lovely family run hotel on the edge of town, there's a free shuttle service which runs between the lifts, so getting onto the mountain couldn't be easier. 

If you want to be the first and last on the slopes, the Hotel Somont or the Hotel Pozzamanigoni both have ski in, ski out access. 

Bars and restaurants in Selva

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in Selva serving tasty Tyrolean specialities, as well as classic Italian cuisine.  When you get onto the slopes, you can find a cosy mountain hut on almost every slope, many of them are also serving tasty Tyrolean dishes, but you can also find pizzas, pastas, fish specialities and grilled meats. Be sure to stop for a warming Bombardino or hot chocolate on your way back to resort - the Panorama Hut on the Dantercepies slope is a fantastic spot to watch the sun set over the Dolomiti peaks. 

If you are looking for a spot for some après-ski, there are a few options to choose from. Luiskeller is one of the best known après-ski bars in the Val Gardena, and everyone who has visited Selva has probably partied in the basement bar at least once. Leave your skis at the nearby ski depot and dance the night away.  If you are looking for somewhere with a more relaxed vibe, La Stua has a fantastic location at the foot of the slopes. Many of the other bars in resort have a more relaxed vibe, where you can enjoy a beer or an Aperol Spritz with friends and family.

Featuring a linked ski area of 1220km on one lift pass, the Dolomite Superski Pass is worth every penny. Walker's pass available & purchased locally. Children born after 01/01/2016 can collect a free ski pass in resort. Proof of age will be required.

  • Guests staying at the Chalet Soldanella tuition may differ to website, please call to confirm duration and prices.
  • Adult ski tuition runs Sunday - Thursday 10am - 1pm, Friday 10am - 4pm
  • Child ski tuition runs Sunday to Wednesday 10am-1pm, Thursday & Friday 10am - 4pm (lunch is included on Thursday & Friday)
  • Group tuition need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked tuition and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private tuition to the value of what you had originally booked.

Levels of tuition:

  • Beginner - never skied before
  • Level 1 - advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes 
  • Level 2 - low intermediate, snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3 - good intermediate, parallel turns 
  • Advanced - fully confident on all slopes, looking to improve technique

Breakfast is a buffet including plenty of bread, meats, cheese, fruit and cereals to get you started. You'll also be able to order from the a la carte menu of hot options.

Dinner is a five course menu with choice and a salad buffet. Expect only the finest food and presentation as the chefs treat your taste buds every step of the way serving up a mixture of local and international dishes with emphasis on quality over quantity. Be sure to speak to the waiting staff to help pair the perfect wine available from the extensive cellar (charged locally).
