Hotel Dufour is a great little family-run hotel. There’s only 32 rooms so you really do feel like you’re at home when you stay here. It’s a got a charming location that’s close to the village and, more importantly, gives you easy access to the slopes. The Punta Jolanda lift is only 50 metres away and the ski rental shop is right next door.

Central location

The Dufour has an excellent location just 50 metres away from the Punta Jolanda lift which gives you access to the sunny Monterosa slopes - Gressoney is right in the middle of the ski area, so it's a great base to explore the neighboring resorts of Champoluc and Alagna. Start your day by heading up to Staffal where you can enjoy the varied red and black runs, you can then choose to head over into the quaint village of Alagna, or enjoy the cruisy reds over in Champoluc. At the end of the day, you can ski down the red run down into Gressoney from the top of Punta Jolanda.

The authentic village of Gressoney retains its Walser traditions and style, with a selection of cosy cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. The quiet village is an excellent choice if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of larger resorts, while having access to great skiing.

Wellness and relaxation

When you’ve had your fill of skiing for the day, you can look forward to heading back to the hotel. There’s a cosy lounge with a fireplace where you can warm up with a drink. We love heading for the top floor wellness area and giving our legs a break in the sauna and whirlpool. If you're away as a family the games room will keep the children entertained while you relax before dinner.

Dinner is always something to look forward to with lovely local specialties served each night. After, grab another drink at the bar or head to the games room for quick game of pool.

Gressoney

  • Resort altitude of 1,640 metres
  • 180 kilometres of skiable terrain
  • Skiing to 3,550 metres

Nestled in the centre of the Monterosa ski area, one of the largest and unspoilt ski areas in Italy, you will find the beautiful resort of Gressoney. If you are looking for a traditional village with cobbled streets, full of history dating back to World War 2 and a ski area known for good challenging pistes, massive off-piste potential and 28 peaks over 4000 metres, this is where you want to be.

Skiing and snowboarding in Gressoney

Dubbed by many as Europe’s best kept secret, the Monterosa ski area is simply stunning. The pistes are immaculate, probably something to do with the fact they are not overcrowded and majority of the people who do head here are at a good level of skiing. Around Gressoney you can enjoy some woodland skiing before heading further afield either towards Colle Bettaforca and over the peak towards Champoluc, the largest of the 7 towns in the area. More experienced skiers and boarders will love the slopes over towards Alagna, specifically those looking for powder can head up the Punta Indren lift which takes enthusiasts to an area dedicated to off-piste. We recommend a guide and ensuring you have the right equipment for the job. There’s also excellent cross-country skiing in both villages, with more than 20 miles of tracks for you to explore.
